Garliava Adomas Mitkus Lower-Secondary School (Lithuania)

-The Lithuanian participating school is situated in the suburban area of Kaunas, the second largest
city of Lithuania. Despite the neighbourhood, Garliava is considered to be a small town. Garliava
Adomas Mitkus Lower Secondary School has got a separate department in Mastaiciai with primary
and lower-secondary sectors. All the staff, 51 teacher in Garliava and 30 teachers in Mastaiciai, are
paid and are with a permanent working status. This team of employees take care of 432 students in
Garliava and 192 students in Mastaiciai. It is the attentive, collaborative and active team of people
who have worked together for a number of years what helped us to know each other well enough,
who are in a good relationship with students, parents and other members of our community. One part
of the students attending school comes from the town, while the others come from nearby villages.
Besides we meet students from immigrant families who have some problems socializing with others,
so our project will help them to acknowledge the fact that they need to share cultures, develop
tolerance to diversity, accept and value differences. -Since we had some incidents of cyberbullying at
our school with some impact on the lives of students and that topic was not widely discussed, our
school is highly motivated to join this project. Our target group is 11- 17 year old students because
they are likely at higher risk. Our team consists of the teachers who teach different subjects (English,
Human Health and Safety, ICT) and have got experience in organizing activities in previous projects.
The teachers are responsible, creative and have good organizational skills. In case the key people
leave their post, other teachers who have experience in organizing projects will take over their role.
Furthermore, the project aims and objectives will be presented to all school community before the
start of the project. -Our organization has got some experience in organizing activities against
bullying. Once a year a school festival is organized on the occasion of International Day for Tolerance
“Week Against Bullying”. Then 7th – 9th graders watch films about bullying and discuss them. What is
more, there are such activities as “Five days – five good activities” or “Writing into a book of
friendship”. Some students make posters and organize exhibitions according to this topic. The phone
numbers of Youth Line, Police and “Caritas” are always on the board with other useful information.
Besides our school has got experience in carrying out 2 Comenius projects: in 2006 ” We have
created big Europe-let’s create friendly Europeans” and in 2009 “Our Planet Under Pressure” where
our school was a coordinator.

Liceo Scientifico Statale “G.Rummo” (Italy)

Liceo Scientifico Tradizionale

Our school is located in Benevento, one of the Campania provinces. The total number of students is
1085. 50% of our student population comes from the center of the city, the other 50% from the
surrounding towns and villages. They belong to medium/high social and economic class but the
impending crisis has been affecting negatively the local economy with the consequence of territories
abandoning and less opportunities for students to access extracurricular interests. Currently we host
six foreign students, which corresponds to less than 1% of the whole students population. They are
perfectly integrated. The school also provides Italian language courses for Erasmus university
students. Our staff consists of 87 teachers with permanent working status and 2 with annual teaching
contract. The administrative staff is made up of 20 persons. Both teaching and administrative staff
are paid. The school hosts different courses of studies. Along the traditional scientific lycee, an
IGCSE international secondary section and sport section have been set up since 2014-2015. The
international lycee offers a deeper insight into the English language with Cambridge Esol exams and
certifications. The sport lycee replaces the study of Latin with more sport lessons. Our school has
many partners both in the private and in the governmental sectors. It has recently promoted a
meeting between students and representatives of the Police of State. The theme was bullying and
cyberbullying. The objective was to make students aware of causes and consequences of the
phenomenon and to inform them on the related statistics. The course also afforded national and
international cases come to the media attention to provide reflection. We think of asking for help to
the Police again during the partners visit to spread the news and to organize a workshop for students
as well as for teachers to implement knowledge and competences. Another intervention already
experienced at our school is the psychological support to students. The school has opened to new
syllabuses: sport and International Cambridge ESOL. Students from both courses of study, along
with the traditional lycee ones, could take part to the project as for the subjects studied and
competences that they have been acquiring, applicable to the project. The Italian contact person for
the project is a teacher of English, journalist for a local online newspaper: Ilquaderno.it. She has
recently attended a course on bullying from the local Police of State and written about the
phenomenon in Italy and locally. She has experience with a previous Comenius. She has been a
teacher trainer for the National Agency “Indire”. She is a speaker for TESOL ITALY, where she
hopes to report about the following project outputs. In case we have to change some persons who
run the project we will choose some other teachers or administrative staff who are informed about the
aims and objectives from the very beginning of the project.

Germany and Sweden. School teachers and young people have engaged in diverse environmental
education, culture, sports and other types of projects. It takes part in organizing student camps. The
school teachers work creatively and purposefully and together with pupils regularly look for
opportunities to develop themselves and do it. The school in many ways is supported by Naukšēni
local government. Our school, like other modern educational institution regularly deals with discipline
and bullying problems at school. We do this by attracting various representatives of other institutions
– county social services, municipal police, the administrative commission, the juvenile affairs
inspectorates and others. We organize both preventive measures as well as struggle with the
consequences. School teachers in their class lessons include and examine topics related to
behaviour, discipline and bullying issues. In these classes they purposefully involve students in roleplaying
the situations and making the analysis. Pupils’ parliament is also involved and organizes a
variety of activities at school, in order to reduce indiscipline and impunity. -The school’s motivation to
join this project is to to identify the risks of cyberbullying, to detect and prevent its signs, to learn new
ways and opportunities for healthy ways of spending time, to widen students’ knowledge in the
English language skills, to work in groups and teams, to improve ITC skills, learn openness and
tolerance towards other cultures, get new friends and contacts in order to expand the European
dimension in school . -The main project participants will be 2 representatives of the administration of
the school, 1 English language and 1 IT teacher; due to unforeseen circumstances (eg changing or
leaving the job), equivalent personnel from existing extra resources will be involved in the project.
The team members have been involved in international training activities, they are English speakers,
have experience in international cooperation and are qualified and experienced adequately to provide
high quality of work in their certain areas. -Our school has a long-term experience of international

Agrupamento de Escolas de Sobreira  (Portugal)

Agrupamento de Escolas de Sobreira is actually a group of schools, similar to most governmental
schools in Portugal. The pupils (973) are distributed according to the level of education: there are two
kindergartens, two large schools with pre-school and primary pupils and a main building where basic
education is implemented and students are 10 to 15 or 16 years old. Agrupamento de Escolas de
Sobreira employs about 80 teachers. All of them have a permanent working status. Our organization
is located in Sobreira, a parish of Paredes which is a small town. However we are only 20 km away
from Porto, the second largest city in Portugal. Apart from learning activities, students attend some
cultural activities at school; there are some clubs – chess, press, music. They are also enrolled in
different sports – handball, badminton and orienteering. A great amount of students spend their spare
time online, playing games or socializing on social networks. Cyberbullying is one of the topics that
are usually discussed with 7th, 8th and 9th grade students in the English classes when talking about
types of bullying and new technologies. On the 7th grade there is also a school subject directed to
social/behavioural skills („Educação para a Cidadania“ where the topic of cyberbullying is also
included. In the past four years we had only a few reports of cyberbullying mainly associated to the
use of the Internet in our school. The increase of users of social networks and the fast development
of technology which is more available and easier to use even by small children, lead us to think that it
is urgent to bring cyberbullying into the attention of students, teachers, parents and the community in
general. These are, thus, the basis for our motivation to join this project, together with the possibility
of learning from others and broadening our horizons. We are occasionally invited to take part in
projects and meetings by the Town Hall educational responsible department. Therefore there is also
the possibility of counting on the local authorities to participate in meetings and debates organized by
our school. The Portuguese contact person is an English teacher. She has a previous experience
with Socrates. The project intends to involve other English teachers and subjects such Arts and
Information and Technologies. Our school has also a full time psychologist who works directly with
our pupils. In case these persons leave their post in the future other teachers from our school will
continue the project.
